The Dana Cup is an international soccer tournament that is held every year in Hjorring, Denmark. This year there were over 1100 teams participating from countries all over the world. JVW (Janine van Wyk) Soccer Academy for girls sent over a team of 20 girls to represent South Africa in the U16 girls division. The first couple of games were to determine whether the team would go through to the A stream or B stream. They were successful in making it to the A stream after which the knockout rounds commenced. Jade and her team played with determination and heart but were unfortunately knocked out just before quarter finals.

The experience for Jade was amazing as she was able to meet and play against girls 2 years older than her from countries like Norway Denmark Sweden Mexico among others as well as meet people from many different countries around the world. Although many hours were spent on the field testing her fitness and soccer skills a lot of fun was had and lessons learnt, especially when it came to being knocked out. As upsetting and disappointing as it was the girls were able to walk off the field with their heads held high knowing that they gave their all and only lost by one goal in the last minutes of the game.

Hopefully they will be given the opportunity to return next year and progress further in the competition.
