Dear Parents and Students,
Many thanks to all of you who attended the parent’s information meetings over the last 2 weeks. We have uploaded the power points for all the information evenings onto the D6.
On Wednesday evening some of the staff and Prefects represented Charter College at the Constantia Kloof Primary schools High school Exhibition.
We had a very good evening and hope to have more people enrolling in our Grade 8 classes next year.
News In General
Building
The infrastructure around the school is almost complete. The rains have held us back a bit (but we are not complaining).
Open Day
We are holding our first open day for the year on Saturday 3rd March between 09H00 and 12H00. Please encourage anyone who is looking for a high school for their child to visit us. The prefects are required to attend the Open days to help showcase our school.
Valentines Day
This Wednesday is Valentine’s Day. At a cost of R50-00 students will be able to wear red, white or pink civvies to school. They will be given a slushy and popcorn.
On Friday 16th we will be holding a Valentines function with an 80’s theme at Canterbury prep. The cost of the evening will be R100. Students may dress up in attire from the 80’s. Popcorn, candy floss and slushies’ will be on sale.
TIME 18H00-22H00
Please ensure students are picked up on time. It is not fair on staff to have to wait for parents to collect their children.
10th Anniversary
Charter College is celebrating its 10th Birthday this year. We are going to be celebrating over the 20th and 21st April. Should you know of any past students who completed their Grade 12 at the College, please ask them to mail us as we would like to be in contact with them.
3 Terms
In 2019 Charter College will be reverting back to a 3 terms. We did send a survey out last year and the majority of our parents prefer a 3 term school year.
Charity Drive
During assembly I have spoken to the students about a charity initiative in our area, Weltevreden Park, Allensnek, Randpark Ridge, Honeydew and Roodepoort at large.
Stephan Ferreira started a charity a few years back called CHARITY BEGINS WITH ME. (They have a Facebook site) This has grown into not only a feeding scheme for children on a Sunday but thanks to all the ladies who are also involved, looking after less fortunate families, and families who have come upon hard times.
They also have a Matric farewell initiative, The Matric Dress Charity Express, where by anyone who needs something to wear, no matter of social standard can go and borrow a dress or a suit for the evening.
The staff collected food for last Friday’s assembly and I took it to Glynis Renzo on Friday afternoon. It will distributed from there to needy families.
I know the economy is bad at the moment, but we are still better off than most people in our country. Our children are able to eat 3 meals a day.
We will be collecting for this Charity over the year.
I have added a list of on- going requirements below.
On a Sunday Stephan feeds about 500 children in Roodepoort. He is always looking for volunteers to help. The children are given a hot dog roll as well as a juice and a small packet of Nik Naks.
This week they are short of fizzers and Nik Naks (20G). Any help will be very much appreciated. Even if it is one small pkt of Niki Naks (20g) and a fizzer.
They are also starting to collect Marshmallow Easter eggs for their Easter project.
If you would like to donate something please drop it off in the side office at school. We have a labelled box there. Every Friday I will drop the goods off at Glynis.
Have a look at the Facebook site CHARITY BEGINS WITH ME.
