One of our teachers, Mr. Jarrod Delport will be participating in the FrankTalk Radio Dialogue on February 28th titled “Clicktivism: Is Social Media Activism Enough?” hosted by the Steve Biko Foundation in partnership with YFM.
Titled after the pseudonym under which Steve Biko wrote, FrankTalk is a non-partisan platform designed to bring together South Africans from all walks of life to reflect collectively on the state of our democracy.
Social media has drastically changed the way we interact and engage with societal issues as a whole, and a number of people, organizations and institutions use it for activism, making them ‘clicktivists’. Clicktivism is defined as the use of social media platforms and other online methods to promote a particular cause.
As an active blogger and social media activist, Mr Delport has been able to impart tremendous knowledge and experience to an audience regarding the uses of social media for activism and advocacy, thereby continuing to play an important role in educating and changing the attitudes of the youth.
The discussion will be broadcast live on YFM on February 28th after 8PM.
