The grade 9s of Charter College hosted their Entrepreneurs’ Day on Friday, 30 October 2015. It was a great success with most groups making a profit or at least breaking even. Each group had to present their business idea to Mrs. Parry BEFORE starting on a formal business plan. Proper marketing had to be done. This week learners also have to hand in their business’s Income Statement and Balance Sheet.
There were numerous groups on the day. Potential customers could buy jewellery, food, drinks, slap chips with delicious sauces, candy floss, slush puppies, wraps and even play games like Fiva and Ping Pong.
Group names:

  • Everything is Awesome
  • Sweet Demise
  • Mikibhisu
  • Teenage Conquest
  • Random Rumble
  • The Munchies
  • Challenge Accepted

The goal of this project is for learners to apply theory, learned in class, in practise. They should also learn how to handle group conflict and plan properly.
I am sure they now know that starting a business is not everyone’s cup of tea and that it requires hard work and lots of market research.
Thank you to all the learners, teachers and parents of Charter College for help making this day a big success.
