The De Beers English Olympiad is a national English competition that draws more than 7000 entries each year. The competition is organized jointly by the Grahamstown Foundation and the South African Council for English Education. The syllabus and examination questions offer stimulation not found within the school syllabus. They call for acute critical ability and sharp writing skills, but they also seek to draw out creative thinking and writing – aptitudes so central to our humanness.

We would like to congratulate Tanna Goaté on receiving a GOLD award! Well done this is a phenomenal result. And she is ONLY in grade 9!

This year we received: 1 GOLD, 13 SILVER, 12 BRONZE and 9 Merits awards from Charter College!

This is wonderful!

Well done, this is a great achievement, especially for those of you in grade 9!

Here is a reminder of what the symbols mean:
G = Gold, 80% +
S = Silver, 70-79%
B = Bronze, 60-69%
M = Merit, 50-59%
P = Participation, 40-49%
U = Unclassified (not all questions were answered/insufficient response)

The certificates will be posted soon, along with next year’s call for entries!
I hope that the Olympiad was an inspiring and enriching experience for all, and that you will enter again for more.
